There are some world’s superb ski resorts in France. Les Portes Du Soleil, located in a place in the north west of Chamonix known as Marzine-Avoriaz has the world’s largest skiing area.

Bourge Saint Maurice is a ski resort which provides skiing thrills to the skiing enthusiasts as it is constructed to be the country’s longest vertical ski drop and it measures 2500 meters in length.

France also has the highest ski resort in Europe. It is the Val Thorans ski resort located not less than 2300 meters above the sea level and situated in the west of Maryville. Alpe d’Heuz is the longest skiing trail in France and it is 16 kms long.

The most favoured and the most expensive ski resorts of France can be seen in the French Alps. The Three Valleys of Meribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens are most preferred skiing trails in the French Alps and these resorts are equipped with good facilities.

Some of the higher altitude French ski resorts cater for snowboarders and cross country skiing as well as regular downhill skiing. There are snowboarding instructors available to give lessons as well as snowboarding ramps.

Slightly affordable and less crowded than the ski resorts in the French Alps are Les Arcs and Alpe d’Huez which have ample powdery snow, long wide-ranging ski runs as well as excellent off piste skiing. All in all these places make a good destination for a skiing holiday in France.

In summer nearly all the ski resorts are closed but some of the glacier skiing resorts are kept open throughout the year and it is indeed in France that you can find Europe’s largest glacier skiing resort.

In surface area this glacier expands about 200 hectares with its ski resorts and it is right in Les Deuz of Ecrines National Park.

Smaller substitutes to ski resorts in the French Alps can be seen in the Pyrenees Mountains as well as the Massif Central. These ski resorts are probably more suitable to beginners and intermediate skiers who won’t be intimidated by the crowded runs at ski resorts in the French Alps.
